good afternoon, today we are going to be learning to, draw a long horn, and you're going to need a half a sheet, of paper so take a white, piece of paper fold it in half you're, doing it horizontal or some people call, it a hamburger fold, i'm going to reposition the camera and, so you can see, on the overhead projector what i am, doing and we're going to, walk you through step by step on how to, draw a longhorn, please feel free to pause the video at, any time, to and replay it so that you can draw, a longhorn with me, okay now that we have our camera, straight let's get our paper straight, i am looking at the paper landscape, and we're going to start with the head i, need to make sure that i have enough, room we're going to make this head kind, of large, need to have enough room for a big, horn a complete horn on this side and a, big complete horn on this side, so i'm going to kind of go close to the, center, and i'm going to make the top of the, head be a, more than an inch wide so i'm going to, go, probably an inch and a half to two, inches wide it's pretty big head, and then on each side of the head i'm, going to draw a straight line, coming down probably another inch and a, half on each side, i'm going to angle my line in and come, another, half inch or so probably that's actually, probably closer to an, inch now you need to use a pencil i'm, using a marker so that it shows up on, the overhead, which is um hard sometimes because i, don't i can't erase, because i would have probably erased, that line if you will draw, lightly with your pencil and if you make, a mistake you can go back, and erase so make sure that you, are using a pencil not a marker then i'm, going to connect, this line down here with like a, u-shape or a smile we're making the, bottom of his, snout now i'm going to draw, to distinguish the nose area, and mouth area from the rest of his head, i'm going to draw kind of a a stretched, out, m shape down here, and then i'm going to make sure i add a, little mouth slit, it's got a cute little smile and, some nostrils don't forget about, nostrils, it's got to be able to breathe, so you start to see now that we have a, head for a cow, part of the way down from the top you, don't want your eyeballs all the way at, the top and you don't want them too, close together because, cow's eyes are real close together and, they are very round so i'm kind of, making a rounded, top and a rounded bottom and i am not, worried about coloring in things right, now, i'm going to go straight across from it, and do the same thing over here, trying to make them close to the same, size but if they're not, exactly the same it's okay, there's my eyes looking pretty good so, far you can tell, what it is he needs some ears, before i can draw my horns he needs some, ears, and those ears kind of look like half a, taco, so when i come down to about middle of, his eye, i'm gonna draw a line coming out for the, bottom of the taco, and this is like the taco shell kind of, taco, and come back in for that side, and then i'm going to add a little piece, up here because you can, sometimes you can see where their ears, flap over, so that's the top of the ear and we need, to do the same thing, on the other side draw a line, out come back in, and do another piece of that line over, here, now i got that ear a little shorter than, this one, you can take the time to make sure that, you get them, similar they don't have to be perfect, it's rare that we have people and, animals that have exactly the same, size and shape on the ears, next we're going to wait and, i think i'm going to wait and do the, orange last because that's like that, piece that we all want to be able to, draw is those big horns, and we need to do his back and you, notice i don't have room enough for, an entire longhorn cow we are just going, to do, the back coming out from here like he's, looking sideways at us, going off the page, on this side you can curve it if you, want to, and then i'm going to come down to past, halfway, on his chin there and then we'll give a, little, outward swoop and then come back in, like the front of his um front of his, legs there, we don't see his neck because he's, turned his head towards us, all right starting to look more like a, long, horn cattle now we need some horns, now i like to do the top of the horn, first some people might want to do the, bottom of the horn first, so i'm going to show you how i do it i, want to start the horn, right up here in the center of that, curve, and i'm going to go up some and then i'm, going to take it as far, out as i can and i'm going to bring it, down, and back in where it touches the ear, there's one big horn and i'm going to, try to do the same thing on the other, side, this is why you need a lot of space uh, oh, he's going to have a little bit shorter, horn on this side but that's okay, they do not have perfectly the same, on each side and remember he's turning, his head towards you so you might not be, able to see the whole, thing another interesting thing, with longhorns is they're usually, different colors they're not all solid, one color, so we can add some, patches of color in here well we'll add, the actual color later but you can draw, your lines, and i'm gonna i like it i think it's, interesting when they have, a face that has like a different color, in the middle and you would have a color, here and a color here, and then his back might be the same way, we can make it look like it connects, even though, it probably doesn't you, are free to do however you want to on, the colors, as far as patches of color, and then here you have it a longhorn, and you have drawn the outline now, remember, we are practicing outlines, drawing outlines for our final, art project as you have, will see in my have seen in the other, video, so have fun practicing, drawing a longhorn the goal is to get, the head, big enough to where um, the body you don't have to draw legs and, tail and all of that we're going to, actually make him, fit in the corner of our final picture, hope you have fun drawing your longhorn

Just Kids was a kid humor strip that ran from 1923 to 1950. It was popular enough to inspire a comic book, a coloring book and a fistful of Big Little Books. 14
